Granular team permissions

Give Every Team Member the Right Access

Invite developers, clients, and colleagues to FlyWP by email, then decide exactly what each person can reach: your whole team, specific servers, or specific WordPress sites. Role-based access control that keeps collaboration simple and sensitive systems protected.

Collaborate freely. Control access precisely.

WordPress team management works best when everyone can do their job and nothing more. Granular team permissions give each person the right level of access to the servers and sites they work on.

Get Started with FlyWP
  • Least-privilege access

Limit Server and Site Administrators to the specific servers or sites they work on.

  • No shared logins

Invite people by email so each team member works from their own FlyWP account.

  • Protected account controls

Billing and deleting the team stay with the team owner, whatever role others hold.

  • Adjust as work changes

Update a member’s role or assigned resources at any time, and cancel invitations that are still pending.

Three roles. Clear boundaries.

FlyWP includes three predefined roles you can invite people into. Pick the one that matches each person’s responsibilities.

Whole team

Administrator

The Administrator role gives broad access to every resource in the team. Invite it for the people who run your FlyWP account day to day.

  • Administrator can access: Team settings and members
  • Administrator can access: All servers and server services
  • Administrator can access: All sites
  • Administrator can access: DNS management
  • Administrator cannot access: Billing and deleting the team (owner only)

Assigned servers

Server Administrator

The Server Administrator role manages only the servers you assign, plus the sites on those servers. Invite it for developers and ops staff who look after specific servers.

  • Server Administrator can access: Assigned servers and their sites
  • Server Administrator can access: Server configuration
  • Server Administrator can access: Server services: SSH keys, cron jobs, firewall rules, database and more
  • Server Administrator cannot access: Team settings
  • Server Administrator cannot access: DNS management

Assigned sites

Site Administrator

The Site Administrator role manages only the individual sites you assign, with no access to the server underneath. Invite it for clients, freelancers, and contributors working on specific websites.

  • Site Administrator can access: Assigned sites only
  • Site Administrator can access: Manage those sites
  • Site Administrator can access: Site-level SSH keys
  • Site Administrator cannot access: Server configuration
  • Site Administrator cannot access: Team settings and DNS management

Server-level vs. site-level access control

Administrators work across the whole team. Server Administrators work across the servers you assign. Site Administrators stay inside the sites you assign. Here’s how the three roles compare.

Granular team permissions FAQs

Direct answers about WordPress team permissions and server access in FlyWP.

What are granular team permissions in FlyWP?

Granular team permissions are FlyWP’s role-based access control. You invite team members by email, give each one a role, and limit Server Administrators and Site Administrators to the specific servers or sites you assign.

Which roles can I assign to team members?

You can assign three roles: Administrator, Server Administrator, and Site Administrator. Administrator has access to the whole team, Server Administrator to assigned servers and their sites, and Site Administrator to assigned sites only.

Can I give a client access to only their WordPress site?

Yes. Invite the client as a Site Administrator and select their site. They can manage that site and add or remove SSH keys on it, but they get no server configuration, team settings, or DNS access. Agencies can see how this fits client work on the hosting for agencies page.

What is the difference between a Server Administrator and a Site Administrator?

A Server Administrator manages assigned servers, including server configuration and services, and every site on them. A Site Administrator manages only assigned sites and has no access to server configuration.

Can an Administrator manage billing?

No. Billing and deleting the team are reserved for the team owner. An Administrator can manage team settings, members, all servers, all sites, and DNS, but not billing.

How do I invite a team member to FlyWP?

Go to Team Settings > Members, click Add New Member, enter their email, choose a role, select the servers or sites if needed, and click Invite Member. See the FlyWP documentation for the full steps.

Can I change a member’s role or access later?

Yes. Click Update Role next to the member in the members list, pick a new role, adjust the assigned servers or sites if needed, and save.

Can I cancel a pending invitation?

Yes. A pending invitation stays in the members list until it is accepted, and you can cancel it from that list at any time before the person accepts.

Bring your team in. Keep control.

Invite your developers, clients, and collaborators to FlyWP and give each one the access they need, nothing more.
